Avital Elbaum-Cohen is a research fellow at the Faculty of Education in Science and Technology at the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology, advised by Associate Professor Einat Heyd-Metzuyanim.
Her current research focuses on various aspects of middle-school students’ participation in early algebraic discourse.
Her Doctoral study investigated the activity of reading mathematical texts in high-school, its educational affordances and challenges, under the supervision of Professor Abraham Arcavi in the Weizmann Institute of Science (2016).
Avital holds a B.Sc. in Physics and Mathematics (cum laude) (1988) from the Hebrew University M.A. and an M.Sc. in Mathematics Education from the Weizmann Institute of Science (2011, 2013).
Avital is a high school mathematics and physics teacher. She has been involved in shaping the new curriculum for 5 units track. She has experience in teaching both pre-service and in-service teachers. She has been an active researcher under the commognitive paradigm in various projects.
